A Zero-Waste Campus Framework: Perceptions and Practices of University Campus Community in Malaysia

This paper will explore the university campus community’s perspective towards realization of a zero-waste campus. A qualitative approach is employed to identify factors influencing awareness and participation in solid waste management (SWM). Perceptions, attitudes, beliefs, opinions, ideas Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) community members are explored focus group discussions (FGD) determine main their pro-environmental behaviour (PEB). The in-depth interview (IDI) used learn more about perspectives on themes defined by FGD. instruments were developed based adaption adoption previous studies, especially reference Kollmuss Agyeman’s 2002 Model Pro-Environmental Behaviour modified Knowledge-Attitude-Practices model. findings show that environmental goals, education, personal waste-related experience, policy, self-awareness, reinforcement contingencies, engagement, social responsibilities, exemplary leadership, media influence PEB. framework an adaptation model proposed promote sustainable Zero-Waste Campus.
